February 23, 2008

We have had a busy week. After we got our car on Thur. we drove to HO which took us 2-3 hours. We dropped our luggage and things at our house and then loaded the car with a missionary his luggage and his bike, plus the ward mission ldr. and headed to Kofordia, two hours away. However, it took us 3 hours to get there because we had to stop and fix the bike that kept bumping in the trunk... Be mindful that it was not an easy road as people are all over the place at the sides and crossing and there are bumps periodically and all sorts of things to slow us down. After dropping the missionary at his place we loaded another missionary in with his bike and luggage and proceeded to bring him back to HO. We got home at 7:00 and had a meeting with the Branch President and his missionary commitee for an hour and then we could finally go to our house. The house was so hot and indescribable that we just moved our mattress in the dinning room-front room on the floor put some sheets on it and went to bed. Charles says he has never gone to bed so early as on this mission. Thurs. we got up and cleaned like crazy all day long . We were so tired but it felt good to have the drawers and floors and etc. clean enough that we could stand it . I actually fixed us spaghetti and we had pineapple for supper. The missionaries stopped by to set up an appointment to have district meeting at our house on Tues. They helped us with a few things. Those missionaries always serving ha ha. Friday morning at 6:00 we were on are way to Accra with two mew missionaries to be for the HO branch. The Pres. went with us and we were to deliver them to the Mission Pres. in Accra for interviews and the setting apart of the two. We stopped at the distribution center there and then took them to Tema which is the next city by Accra to the Mission Home (about 30 miles ). Took them in to met the MTC Pres. say good-bye and give them a hug. We then went to another book store for the Branch Pres. to get more supplies.. Keep in mind its hot hot hot and people all over the place selling goodes in their hands or on their heads and narrow streets and cars all over it's hard to discribe it all and dirt, dirt, dirt, hardly any grass anywhere . And all black with every few white. All this conjestion makes it so it is hard to be fast. About 3 the Pres. took us to a place to eat. I would never beable to find it again. There are tons of narrow conjested streets. The place was called Plamor and was okay. We were really hungury (forgive all spelling errors etc.) and the food is different here dad had fish and chips and I had Chimichanaga but it just was not like Los hermanos, far from. We have to carry water bottles every where. After eating we went to one store and then it was almost 5:oo but it took us an hour to get out of Accra and home by 8:30, boy were we tired we just rolled in to bed. The one airconditioner in the dinning area had been off all day and so it was way hot; We only have that one and a fan in our bedroom. Now here's the clincher, only a small trickle of water , none in the shower or bathroom sink, No hot water since we came, a washer and dryer , but can't use them, no water. Only one small shower on Thurs and it was cold and no water at all today. We had a little we had put in 2 buckets and were able to have a spit bath this morning. Sat. today Feb.23 up at six no water, had a little in a bottle to drink and milk for cereal to take our Malaria pill (without fail every day ) and off to a Funeral of a church member who had died. Wow, Funerals are only held on Fri. and Sat. The funeral was out side under a big tree. They had chairs set up and a canvas tarp for the family to sit under. I was just melting, everyone is so kind though and I am trying to remember any names. Anyway the body was in another tent and the ward people gathered around in the tent and sang and a few words said. Then we all sat under the tree and had bigger program. I had to laugh to myself at the lizard climbing the tree and a house wall and the mother chicken and her ckicks walking though and the black chickens pooping by the tree and people singing a song and just things. Then to the cemetary all dirt . Most roads are dirt , af ew paved narrow roads. I'll tell you more next funeral. We then went back to the church for small food. I am on the Cafe Internet and must hurry now. We are still alive and that's what counts... We love all the children and grandchildren '' hug and kisses to you all. Love mom and dad
