October 6, 2008 (Part I)

What's happening in the good ole USA? Only news I have is more wrinkles and grayer hair and dad still has his tummy and a few more gray hair. Well it's been a while since I have been able to e-mail. Can't remember what I wrote last. On Wed. we had finally had enough of the computer problem. For three weeks now we have been trying to work with the service hook up and so they finally said bring it in. We had taken it in before and they couldn't find anything wrong. Could they just move us to Accra, it works fine there. ha ha. We took a day just to go down to take it. It was well worth it. It finally works. On the way back on Wed. it was raining and dark and water everywhere. We hit a pile of cinder blocks on the road in one of the villages. It bent the rim of the wheel and let the air out of the tire. wa-la, flat tire. we got two blocks and pulled over and three african boys one in a yellow rain coat came to help Charles change the tire, thank goodness for the brand new tire in the back to put on. It was raining very hard and of course, one good thing about being a women is I didn't get wet. Charles was way wet. We had lost the hub cap when we hit. We circled back to look for it but there was too many weeds and much water by the side of the road and so we told the guy that lives right there in a shack to look for it and we would pick it up on Sat. when we came through. We went to Kpong on Sat. Six of us in the little car. I sat on a small pillow I made just for the very reason that I could sit in the middle when we needed to take more in the car. It's not the best but it works. We have three new Elders here now. Total now of four Elders in HO. Elder Riding stayed and Elder Joseph went to Accra. He really didn'twant to go but that's how it is. Elder Fields from Burley, Idaho, out about 5 mos. Elder Dadiz from the Ghana area, been in his mission l6 mos. and is the district ldr. for us now here in HO. That means we won't have to go to Kpong every Tues. morning to district meeting . We can just have it here in HO with the six of us. It was a waste of time for us to go to Kpong, it literally wasted the day. The other Elder is from Hurricane, Utah. He has been out a month. They sent him here to the Ghana Mission home from US and he was there two weeks and out in the field with us two weeks. His name is Colton Iverson. He is feeling the culture shock right now. He comes from a family of cattle ranchers and construction builders and his family has a ranch in Hurricane and drives their cattle to the range on Kolob mountain down by Zion's where they own part of the mountain and a cabin to go up to. They ride their four wheelers out to check on the cattle and owns alot of property in Hurricane. He is a talker and a cute boy and willdo well here when he gets over being homesick. Plus he caught a bug and was sick yesterday. They all call us mom and dad. Course we feed them occassionally and help them with different things. I'm sending this much and will continue on another e-mail. It goes off to easily.
