July 7, 2008

We are sitting here at the internet cafe because our computer is on the blink right now. Last week was such a fun week, it seems like we are always on vaction ha ha. We went with the single adults on an outting (because dad is the 2nd counslor and someone had to go with them from the Presidency). We went to Korfordia (spelling) about 3 hours away to a water fall park. It was a big amusement place with hundreds of people that day, because it was a holiday here. No place to park, but found a spot and we took our lunches with us and tried to get into the park . It cost 2.00 each. There were so many people pushing and shoving and trying to get in the narrow gate way. It is so hard to explain it was stressful to say the least. I can see how people could get trampled to death. Anyway we finally all got in . There were about 20 of us. Once in it was just a big forest area with people picnicing and dancing and a band, lots of noise. We decided to eat our lunches before we started the hike. Dad and I had brought our tuna sandwich. The others had brought their chicken and rice and the glass bowls to put them in. They eat a lot of things just with their fingers if there are no forks or spoons. Dad and I had brought three bottles of water in our cooler and it was not near enough for us all . No one else brought water and there are no water fountains in africa. We started our hike, dad and I thought we were hiking to a water fall but it turned out after an hour and half of gruelsome hiking up and down , climbing rocks wading in the water , masses of people still crowding etc. we finally got to the top of the mountain and it was a huge rock called the umbrella rock sitting on the top of a smaller rock . People climbed green bamboo ladders to get on the top to dance around etc. There was a trail from the rock around into a small village area where there was a big palm tree with a trunk that branched out in to a three pronged fork with leaves on the top. People were climbing into it and having their picture taken. People kept saying to dad and I , oh you poor brunis (bruni means white people) you will never make it up the mountain. We fooled them all and help others on the way. It was a great day.
